I won’t lie to you, I was wondering the same thing not too long ago. All I knew was that the front squat was great for developing core strength and quads but other than that it just didn’t make much sense to switch to a front squat from the back squat. Here are a few benefits that front squats offer.
- Your quads will look amazing
- They focus on the upper back and core muscles
- It has a slight shoulder carryover
- If you do snatch grip your wrists will be very flexible
There are also a few downsides to the front squat (as with anything)
- It obviously won’t be as heavy as your back squat
- You won’t develop as much strength in your hips
