How does one progress in deep squat help increase the performance of deadlift and vice versa?

Speaking purely from a logical point of view, I would quickly say yes. Why? Well, when you do deep squats you’re working your quads, hamstrings and basically the entire lower portion of your body. So, it makes sense for that to have a carryover to both sumo and conventional deadlift since they essentially work the same muscles (some more than other).
