Now this is a touchy subject for me mainly because I was never really able to go heavy there. What I did was a sort of variation of deadlift there though on the smith press machine (elevated deadlift or a somewhat rack pull). Why? Well, the way that a smith press machine is set up it’s very difficult to deadlift any weight off of the ground without straining your mid to lower back (at least that’s what I felt). So, I would set the weight just below my knees or mid shin and then I would begin my lift - it’s as simple as that.
