Ivysaur 4-4-8 Program for Powerlifting

The Ivysaur 4-4-8 program was designed by Ivysaur and allows lifters to hit the same muscle every 36 hours - this leads to lifters being able to train every muscle group 3 times per week. Since it’s a beginner program, lifters can choose their starting weights (eyeball them) so they can get an idea for what weights they should be working with.

Where to get it? / Who made it?

The Ivysaur 4-4-8 was created by Ivysaur (a reddit user) and can be found here.

Length of the program

Indefinitely (until you hit a plateau 2-3 times)

Goal of the program/ Does it use RPE?

The goal of the Ivysaur 4-4-8 Program is to give beginner powerlifters a way to progress linearly. No it does not use RPE.

How does the program work?/ Spreadsheet of the program?

For each movement in the Ivysaur training program lifters add a different amount of weight to each movement. For instance, squat and deadlift each add 15 lbs each week while the bench and row adds only 10 lbs per week. Each workout is done every other day (M<W<F) and restarts on the same days each week. The routine is on an A and B schedule meaning that lifters perform a certain rep scheme one week and a different one the next.

Accessory movements

As for accessories, they’re already worked into the workout (as you’ll see in the spreadsheet) - the spreadsheet may or may not tell you that you can do chin ups everyday (they’re bodyweight so it’s usually fine)
